Koha Ditore paper reports that representatives of international missions in Kosovo have reminded Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi that they will remain in Kosovo as supervisors of independence at least for another two years.
Such remarks come only one day after Thaçi said the supervised independence is coming to an end. International Civilian Office (ICO) spokesman Andy McGuffie told the paper that despite certain achievements, there are many areas that demand more work in order to implement the Ahtisaari Plan.
“It is up to the International Steering Group to determine further changes in the activities and structure of the ICO, certainly while taking into full account the opinion of the Government of Kosovo,” McGuffie said.
EULEX spokeswoman Karin Limdal was quoted as saying, “27 EU member states gave their approval for the EULEX mission in Kosovo; this mandate has just been renewed for the next two years, until June 2012.”
