The first of its kind Breast Milk Bank has opened in Belgrade. The bank is located in the Institute for Neonatology, and is currently providing breast milk for babies, who were born before the mother’s pregnancy due date.
The institute aims to feed prematurely born infants and provide breast milk to the birthing rooms in Belgrade, as well as to mothers who cannot breastfeed for health reasons.
Currently, the bank is maintained by women volunteers, who have larger quantities of milk and whose children are still in the institute.
So far, the Breast Milk Bank has met 1/3 of the institute’s needs.
